Increase in burglary and related offences in County Roscommon

Roscommon Garda Station saw the most recorded incidents
There were 175 burglary and related offences recorded by Garda Stations in the county last year, according to CSO figures.
Roscommon Garda Station saw the most recorded incidents at 37 during last year with Ballaghaderreen recording 28 incidents. Castlerea and Boyle Garda Stations both recorded 19 incidents, with Tulsk recording 17. This is an increase on 2023 figures when 126 burglary and related offences were reported within the county. Last year, there were 229 theft offences recorded by stations within the county, with Roscommon Garda Station recording the most incidents with 83, followed by Ballaghaderreen with 51.
There were also nine robbery offences recorded by stations in the county as well as 13 weapons offences and 116 public order offences. There were a total of 173 threat, assault and other related offences recorded by Roscommon Gardaí in 2024. In terms of drugs offences, Roscommon Gardaí recorded 65 offences.
In total, there were 263 burglary and related offences recorded in the Roscommon Longford Garda Division last year. In addition to the 258 burglary offences, a further four were aggravated burglaries and one related to the possession of an article with intent to burgle, steal, or demand.
There were 583 recorded theft offences within the division. Most of these, 345, related to thefts from shops, with four reports of thefts from a person.
Throughout 2024, 74 sexual offences were recorded by Gardaí in the division. There were also 108 incidents of assault causing harm within the division, as well as 53 threats to kill or cause serious harm. A further 254 less serious assaults were recorded by Gardaí in the division. There were also 31 recorded instances of arson and 40 weapons offences in the division.
In terms of very serious road traffic offences in the division, there was one incident of dangerous driving causing death in the first three months of last year, and one in the final three months. There were also a total of 237 drink and drug driving offences. Of these 98 were drug driving, with the remaining 139 drink driving offences.
There were 15 child abandonment, neglect and cruelty offences recorded during the year.
Within the division, there were 35 recorded possession of drugs for sale or supply offences, and one for the cultivation or manufacture of drugs. The most common drugs offence detected was possession for personal use with 215 recorded instances.
