Roscommon Town’s Christmas Lights Committee unveiled a nativity crib with life-size figures on Saturday last.

The life-size crib will be situated beside Eight ‘Til Late for the entire festive season.

“This is one the first cribs in Ireland with life size figures and we are confident it will prove to be a great attraction for visitors to the town,” said Gerry Dervin, Chairperson Roscommon Christmas Lights Committee.

He went on to thank everyone involved saying, “We are deeply grateful to Roscommon County Council, local businesses, individuals and volunteers for their time and assistance in bringing this project to fruition.”

This year marks Roscommon Lights Committee’s 30th anniversary erecting and maintaining the Christmas lights for the town. The committee is proud that the Roscommon Crib will be a huge addition to the amazing festive display of Christmas lights in the town.

“This is only possible because of the dedicated volunteers who make it all happen. The joy and cheer the Christmas lights bring to us all, both adults and children, cannot be underestimated and it truly transforms Roscommon town for the festive season,” said Mr Dervin.

There is a significant cost involved in decorating the town annually and making upgrades and additions such as purchasing this crib. The committee is asking as many “Rossies” at home and abroad as possible to make a small contribution for the greater good of the town by donating on https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/RoscommonChristmasLights2023
