Counting got underway for the Seanad’s agricultural panel at lunchtime today.

Outgoing senator Eugene Murphy is hoping to retain his seat in the Oireachtas, after breaking with Fianna Fáil and running in the general election as an independent.

FG outgoing senator Aisling Dolan, who also ran in the general election, is a candidate on the agricultural panel.

Highly competitive, the panel has 11 seats with 28 candidates seeking to fill them. Three of the seats have now been filled after the first count.

Voting for the Seanad panels is done by members of the incoming Dáil, members of the outgoing Seanad, and incumbent city and county councillors.
