Tributes are being paid to a young DJ who lost his life in a car crash in Co Galway on Sunday night.

Evan Kilmartin (22) from Indreabhan was a well-known DJ in Co Galway who performed regularly at several venues throughout the county. He also worked as the bar manager at Connemara Coast Hotel.

Locals said he was an exceptionally kind hearted man after he organised a head shaving event fundraiser for Cancer Care West in April 2023.

Evan shaved his own head for the event, raising €5,437. Locals said his parents Seamus and Angela were being comforted by locals on Monday night.

Paying tribute one friend said: "Evan, it was a privilege of knowing you while I was living in Spiddal. You were the sweetest lad, such a kind young man, taken way too soon. Life can be so cruel. May your gentle soul rest easy. Absolutely heartbroken. Thinking of your family."

A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Bearna, Co. na Gaillimhe last night, Sunday 9th March 2025.

"Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a collision involving three cars on the R336 at approximately 11:25pm.

"The driver of one of the cars, a male in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was removed from the scene to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place."

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. They said: "Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Bóthar na Trá (Salthill) Garda Station on 091 514 720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
