Tributes have been paid to a Roscommon senior footballer who made his 100th appearance for the Primrose and Blue during last night’s facile FBD final victory against Galway at the University of Galway Connacht GAA Air Dome.
Diarmuid Murtagh marked his milestone appearance by lifting the Paddy Francis Cup.
During those 100 games, Murtagh — regarded as one of the great Roscommon forwards of the modern era — has hit 18-266, including a point during last night’s final.
Roscommon GAA Chairperson, Brian Carroll, described Murtagh as a “class fella both on and off the pitch.”
Roscommon GAA quipped: “what a day for this man” as he captained his county to success.
His club, St. Faithleach’s, congratulated their talisman on reaching 100 appearances, describing it as “a fantastic achievement.”
Murtagh has been a fans’ favourite over the years, hitting some crucial goals, including during the 2019 Connacht final against Galway and the 2022 Division Two League final against the same opposition.
