Woodbrook NS pupils in final of music competition

The pupils from Woodbrook National School, Carrick-on-Shannon have been shortlisted to take part in the final of the Walton’s RTÉ Lyric fm Music for School’s Competition. The final takes place today in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.
This is an enormous achievement for the small County Roscommon school.
Under the direction of Anne Hand-Doyle, the school principal, together with 13 pupils, the school submitted its entry based on the theme “The Key of Life”.
The pupils play a range of instruments ranging from triangle, xylophone, drums, and castanets, to maracas, rain sticks, musical water flutes, tambourine, and bongo drum.
The initial entries were judged by a team of first round adjudicators and 12 finalist groups were selected, six primary and six post primary.
The finalists were announced on RTÉ Lyric FM and there was huge excitement when the school featured in the line-up.
The 12 finalist groups perform in a gala finalist concert in the National Concert Hall and three primary and three post primary schools will be selected at the end of the concert. The winning schools receives vouchers from Walton’s School of Music to be used to purchase musical instruments and equipment for the school ranging from €500 to €2,000.
