'We’ve no business being in a league final’

Davy Burke believes that Roscommon’s Division Two League campaign is over, even though his side still have a realistic shot at promotion despite Sunday’s two-point defeat against Cavan.
Roscommon lie second on the table on scoring difference, and could yet reach the league final if they beat Westmeath in Mullingar next Sunday.
But the Roscommon manager felt that his side’s display, which resulted in a 0-22 to 0-20 loss, didn’t deserve top-flight league football in 2026.
“It was very poor. People come out here to the Hyde to see Roscommon, and that’s the best we can do. It’s not great, is it?
“We weren’t good enough. I’d say that’s our league campaign over. We’ll go to Westmeath next week to fill the numbers and then we’ll prepare for championship.
“We’ve no business being in a league final after that type of stuff. Two defeats in the national league, you’ve no business in a league final. You can’t win your home games. I think we’re safe enough doing what we’re doing.
“We’re preparing now for London. We have to go over there in a few weeks’ time. I’d like to think that a few of them (the players) are going to react and try and get into the team for that.
"Whatever happens next weekend happens but, as I said already, our league campaign is over.
Burke also expressed his dismay that his players hadn’t delivered a good display in front of their own supporters.
“We were very flat again. Every second game, it seems to be happening. Big win in Cork against a Cork team not going great at the time. Then we turn up in the Hyde and we don’t do it.
“It’s very disappointing. We haven’t been here in a month. We’ve only three games here (in the league) and that’s what Roscommon people are going to remember."
